Bókun has recently made changes to the Stripe integration, which allows a supplier to expand payment options by directly connecting their Bókun account with Stripe Connect!

What is Stripe Connect?

Stripe Connect allows a supplier to offer multiple payment methods to their customers, where the traveller is able to choose their payment method at check out by using, for example, a digital wallet, bank transfer, debit or redirects, or buy now, pay later.

What are the advantages of having multiple payment options?

Often, payment methods are geographically preferred and customers who are unfamiliar with a payment method are wary to make a purchase.

The main reason for this is safety and security. Having different payment methods builds trust and confidence during a transaction and ensures a supplier is not losing revenue because the end user isn’t familiar with the payment method.

Another advantage is that some suppliers cannot accept credit card only payment systems, so it is crucial to have alternative options.

Here is a list of some of the available payment methods a supplier can allow their customers to pay with:

How does Stripe Connect work?

A supplier using the Stripe Token will have to migrate to Stripe Connect in Bókun to have access and functionality to the above payment method options

These payment methods will then appear automatically in the booking process during checkout. When a customer proceeds to the payment step, they will see the payment methods available that are relevant to them pay for thier booking.

For example, if the customer has Apple Pay activated on their device, Apple Pay will appear in their checkout. Similarly, if the customer is from Belgium they will see Bancontact, which will not appear for someone from Australia.

What if I do not see any other payment method than a credit card during checkout?

To be able to offer any of the available payment methods, the supplier has to have migrated to Stripe Connect in Bókun.

If a customer only sees a credit card during the checkout process, the supplier should check their Stripe integration in Bókun:

  • Navigate from Settings > Sales settings > Payment providers.
  • Click on Stripe.

If Stripe Connect is integrated, the green message Your Stripe account is successfully connected. will appear.

If Stripe Connect is not integrated, the message You already have a Stripe account set up, but we recommend that you upgrade your connection by clicking the button below will appear where the supplier can proceed to set up the connection on Stripe side.

When you have migrated to Stripe Connect with Bókun, all available payment methods will be available to your account.

What if a supplier wants to turn off some of the available payment options?

All the various payment alternatives are automatically available in the Bókun system via Stripe Connect. Suppliers can customize the options of their choice. If a supplier wants to remove a payment method, they will do so by going to their Stripe Dashboard, choosing Payment methods, then activate or deactivate the relevant one(s).
