Time selector widget is the first step in your online booking process for Tours & Activities. Here is an example of a time selector.
To create the booking engine for Tours & activities products, you need to create two widgets. These widgets are connected together to create a fully functioning online booking engine. The two widgets you need to create are:
- Check-out - here is information on how to create a checkout widget.
- Activity time selector - is what we are covering in this article.
Note that in most cases, it is enough to create one set of widgets. This set can be used to embed multiple tours. There is no need to create one widget per tour. The only time you will need more than one widget is if payment parameters are different between products, or if you would like to offer a drop-down list of products in your booking engine v.s. just have one product bookable in the booking engine.
To create new widgets you have to go to the widget page. To go to the widget page select the gear icon in top right corner then you select “Widget” from the side bar:
Select “Add” to create the widget.
This page appears and here you choose the widget that you need to create. In this case, we select “Activity Time selector” from the list.
There are few parameters that need to be set and they will be described step-by-step.
Title: it is good to create a descriptive title so that you can remember if you have more than one time selector and easily identify the difference between them. As an example: "My Company - Activity Time Selector" or "Time selector - drop down list"
Note: it is enough to create one Activity Time Selector Widget. The same widget can be used for multiple tours and the tour is chosen in a later step when the widget is embedded.
After adding to cart: Here you are selecting where the customer will go after he/she selects "Book" in the booking engine. You have three options.
Display a message: You are most likely not going to use this option. This is an option you use if you want to tell the customer something. e.g. select more products before going to check out.
- Go to checkout widget: This option is commonly used where the customer will go directly to "checkout", the step where he/she adds his/her information, e.g. name, pickup place etc. If you select this option, you select in the line below "Checkout widget" the checkout widget you are using with this time selector.
Redirect to another page: This option is also commonly used. This option allows you to send the customer to another page (URL) after he/she selects "Book". This is used e.g. if you would like to embed the "checkout widget" onto a separate page, because it is better for your site design. You would also use this option if you are using a shopping cart where the customer has the option of adding multiple products to the shopping cart.
When you select the "Redirect to another page", you add to the "Redirect URL" field the URL you are going to send your customer to. This could be https://mywebsite.com/checkout. Note that you have to embed your checkout widget to the URL you add to the redirect URL field.
Allow customer to select from activities: Check this box if you would like the customer to have a drop-down list where he/she can choose between products.
You can create a rule to select few products to show in the booking engine. Here is more information on how to create a rule to select products
You can also select whether the customer only sees your own products, or if the customer sees a list of all products that you can book from all the suppliers you have contract with on the Marketplace to sell products from. You can select this in the "Activity list".
Must have at least 1 participant in default price category: By checking this box you are pre-selecting one participant in your default pricing category. E.g. there is always one adult selected by default.
Select start time in a dropdown box: Check this box if you have multiple departure times and you would like them to appear in a drop-down list, rather than as radio buttons.
Display type: In display type you select how you want the checkout widget to look to the customer.
You have 4. options and you can choose if you want the customer to see a calendar or the next few upcoming events.
If the tour takes place every day you could e.g. have calendar as a default and upcoming an option or skip upcoming
If you have only few instances of this specific tour you might want to use upcoming that only shows the dates of the tour. Note for upcoming you can select how many instances of the upcoming events are shown, e.g. the next 5 events. This is set below in "Max upcoming events"
Hide bookable extras - If you check this box your extras will not be visible in the widget. Note: this will also hide your up-sell extras, not just extras that are included in your product.
Max upcoming events - This belongs to “display type” and controls how many upcoming activities can be shown in your upcoming list.
Show sold out: If you check this box, the customer can see if the trip is sold out. The sold out date will appear red in the calendar. If this box is not checked, the sold out date appears white.
Show warning when few left: By checking this box, you show a warning when few seats are left, e.g. Only 2 seats available
Warning Threshold - Here you choose how many seats are left, when the "Only 2 seats left" warning starts appearing e.g. when 5 seats are left a warning appears.
Get affiliate tracking code from query string: By default this box is checked, there is no need to change that. This is related to creating affiliate tracking codes.
Affiliate tracking code query param name. By default it says "trackingCode" in this box. There is no need to change this.
If you are using affiliate tracking code and you want something else to link your code to the URL rather than "TrackingCode", you can change this text. The affiliate URL is e.g. like this: website.com/?TrackingCode=[Affiliate code].
Resource References, Custom Head and Custom CSS/LESS: These options allow you to change the look and feel of your booking engine with CSS or Java Script. Here you can find more information on how to change the look and feel of your booking engines
