What is a payment provider and why do I need it?

What payment provider does is to process your customers credit card on your website, receive the payment. In the end the amount the customer paid is
deposited in your bank account. When the payment providers pays out to you, depends on the contract you have with your payment provider.

Payment providers do take a transaction fee for their service, the transaction fee varies and it is best to ask the payment providers directly or check on their websites what their transaction fees are.

The Payment provider is only to process bookings coming via your own website. You do not need to have a payment provider for OTA's bookings or Marketplace bookings. In these cases the seller will process the payment from the customer.

What do I need to do?

The first step for you is to select the payment provider you would like to use from the list of available payment providers.

If you have a contract with them already that is great and you can set up your payment service immediately.

If you do not have contract already in place, then you have to start by signing up for their service and then you can connect them to Bokun, to start accepting payments.

Can I just not take payments on my website?

Yes you have the option of not accepting payments at the time of booking, that is fully optional. Also in the case that you are waiting for a contract with your payment providers you can add booking engines that do not take payment for the time being, and add your payment option as soon as it is activated. Here are information on you can not take payments in your online booking engine.
