Extras have two main features.
- To sell extra services and objects and rent equipment with your products.
- To ask customized questions in the booking process.
In Income statement report you can see detailed information on sold extras.
Creating a new Extra
Extras are created and configured for each product.
- Navigate to the product you would like to add the new Extra to.
- Click the Extras tab on the product's page.
- Click add at the top of the Extras section (See screenshot below).
The title will be visible to your customers in the first step of your booking process.
This is a unique reference number for your Extra.
Max units per booking
- No maximum No max limit on the quantity of bookable extras. If one passenger books, he can add any amount t-shirts to the booking.
- Maximum by participant Max amount of extras is the same amount as participants for the booking. 3 people book, and only 3 t-shirts can be added to the booking.
- Custom Set the max Extras per booking regardless of how many participants the booking has.
Add a short description for you activity.
Flags are used to filter Extras when using Bókun's extensive API services.
Adding questions to your extras
To offer your customers options to their purchase of Extras you can add questions to the booking process. This is useful when you are renting protective clothing (asking about size for example) as well as asking for preferences regarding catering services, food allergies, anything that you need to know from your customer before he arrives.
Questions are added to the extras in "booking questions". to add booking questions save the extra and go back to your "Overview" tab for you product. On the overview page, you will add questions in "Booking questions":
To add custom booking questions for the extras, select "Add" in the right hand corner of the booking questions field.
To create a question, fill out the form that appears:
Title: the question to the customer, e.g. Do you have driving license
This question asks for personal data: Check if you are asking the customer for personal data
Code: short code for you question, if you have any.
Help text to explain the question to the customer: if needed add explanatory text for your customer to make sure he understands the question.
Answer type: choose how the customer should reply.
Default value: the value that is automatically selected for the customer.
Flags: API related, in most cases you can leave this empty
Question should be asked for every: Choose if the question is per person, per extra or per booking.
Ask when certain pricing categories are booked: Select if the question should only be asked when certain pricing categories are booked. E.g. Driving license only for adults.
Pricing categories: Select the pricing category that is related to the question.
Ask when certain rates are booked: Select if the question should only be asked when certain rates are booked. E.g how many pax, if group rate is being booked.
Rates: select the rate that is related to the asked question.
Ask when certain extras are booked: Select if the question should only be asked when certain Extras are booked. E.g. only ask if the extra food allergy is selected.
Extras: select the extra that is related to the question.
Then remember to save so you will not loose your work.
Adding extras to your product and pricing extras:
After you create your extra you have to add it to your product, it is a bit different how you do depending on your product type. Each one will be listed below.
Tours & Activities.
To add the extras to the product go back to the "overview" tab on your product. Go to the rates section and select the rate you would like to add this extra to. You can add the same extra to multiple rates.
At the bottom of the rates page you you can add and remove extras to the product as needed.
- The first thing is to select the blue plus sign to add extras
- Select from the drop-down list of available extras which one you are adding to the product
Selection: Here you are selecting whether the extra is "preselected" for the customer or if it is "optional", the customer checks a box to select it in the booking process.
Pricing: Select how or if the extra is priced. You have two options "Priced separately" or "Included in price"
Extra is priced per person: Check this box if the price of the extra is related to quantity of extras. E.g. two extra are selected, the prices is added per extra.
Do not check this box if the extra is priced per booking. Then the price is just added once, irrelevant of how many passengers are selected.
Remember to save the rate before continuing.
If you selected that the Extra is priced separately you can now go the pricing tab and add the price to the extra.
Extras are added to your room types, you can offer different extras to different Room types. E.g. you can offer an "extra bed" option to your double room, but not to your single room.
To add the extra to the room type, select the room type of the list of you available room types:
Scroll almost to the bottom of the screen, there you have a list of available extras. Check the box by the ones that are applicable to this room type.
Extras are added to your car types, you can offer different extras to different car types. E.g. you can offer an "extra gravel road insurance" option to your Jeeps but not to your smaller cars.
To add the extra to the car type, select the car type of the list of you available car types:
Scroll almost to the bottom of the screen, there you have a list of available extras. Check the box by the ones that are applicable to this car type.
